Increasingly rare to find in any condition, this 107 year old Washburn mandolin is still making music as it was intended to.   This mandolin exhibits its beauty in a fine patina of honest playing wear.   The voice of this mandolin is as irreplaceable as its aesthetics.  No modern mandolin can produce the brilliance of tone and projection this mandolin processes.   Made to cut through a full band including banjos and horns in a time before amplification this mandolin was crafted to be as balanced as it is loud.   It is a high end amalgamation of the worlds finest tone wood and the last centuries most skilled craftsmanship.
After a century of use this mandolin has had a couple repairs.  A back slat and the center seam of the top have been professionally repaired.  These repairs are solid, stable and will not reopen.   Almost all of the mandolins of this area have pick guards that have cracked or chipped.   This is mandolin’s pick guard is no exception.   As it is almost intact aside from the obvious chips observed in the pictures, with the hand scrimshawed mother of pearl inlay still vibrant, it is being left as is.  Please view the pictures to determine if this mandolins vintage aesthetics and condition are acceptable to you.   The mandolin has just been lightly cleaned and restrung with extra light strings.
