The Story Of A Piece Of Chevrolet History…
Earlier this year, I was fortunate to stumble upon a time capsule optioned like I’ve never seen before:  a museum quality, 1972 Chevrolet C20 Custom Deluxe Custom Camper HIGHLANDER Level C pickup truck.  BUT, it gets better…it’s a big block / turbo 400 transmission truck, with 59,727 miles, original paint, and gobs and gobs of paperwork and maintenance records. Having owned a half dozen vintage Chevy pickups over the years, I’ve NEVER seen a truck optioned this extensively. Toss in its survivor status and jaw-dropping condition, and it’s a unicorn, a real life unicorn. Notice that even the original Power Beam headlights are in place. Lastly, note this truck does indeed have its factory, born-with driveline…engine, transmission, and rear axle.
An opportunity to purchase an original paint survivor pickup optioned to this level may not come around again. If you’ve been searching for a unique, investment-grade ’67-’72 Chevy pickup, you’ve found it.
The Pueblo, Colorado area is well known for its proximity to outstanding fishing grounds in Colorado. It’s also known for its dry climate, which keeps classic cars and trucks well-preserved and rust free. From 1972 until 2011, Mr. Eurich faithfully drove his ’72 C20 Custom Deluxe Custom Camper Highlander to those fishing grounds on weekends to connect with nature. The gentleman in Colorado I purchased this time capsule from tells me that Mr. Eurich took impeccable care of his fishing gear, his 18′ ’72 Prowler camper purchased right after the Highlander pickup, and of course, his beloved ’72 C20 Highlander. Mr. Eurich kept outstanding records, saving nearly all of his maintenance records for his treasured pickup. Folks in town shared that Mr. Eurich kept his pickup garaged. He was also a non-smoker, which is almost unheard of for a pickup truck from this era.
I’ll let the photos and videos do most of the talking for this rust free time capsule, folks. Mr. Eurich used his ’72 for fishing excursions, and when he wasn’t towing his 18′ camper, he slept on a mattress in the custom outfitted bed of his pickup. Mrs. Eurich sewed the curtains for the inside of the topper, and Mr. Eurich mounted custom rod holders and storage compartments inside.
This truck is so incredibly uniquely optioned…YES, the orange plaid seat is factory. For those unfamiliar, Chevy offered the Highlander package on its pickups near the ’72 model year to help boost sales before the all new body style debut for 1973. Known for their plaid seats, Highlanders were available in 3 levels, and offered a cost-effective way to load your pickup with options. Mr. Eurich’s Highlander includes the top level package, which includes air conditioning, tilt wheel, chrome front bumper, plaid cloth seat, chrome wheel covers, tinted glass, along with other features. In addition to the options mentioned, it’s worth noting that this truck also features power disc brakes, power steering, gauges, AM radio, 4.10:1 rear axle gear, sliding rear window, factory camper wiring, factory dual gas tanks, dual batteries, and rear leaf spring suspension. Don’t forget, too, this truck has all the cool options from the Custom Deluxe package, too, like the woodgrain trim and bright trimwork.
I believe the truck has all original paint. There is a 1′ section of the center white paint on the driver’s side box that seems a bit more of a creamier white, but I can’t see ANY evidence of a blend in that area. So, either the truck has 95% original paint, or 100% original paint. Other than just the slightest bit of patina on hood edges that is seen in the photos and videos, the paint is stunning…just plain stunning. Trim is nice, the chrome is bright, and the glass is beautiful. I can’t say enough about how well preserved this truck is, inside and out. Please note that I’ve included a photo of what this truck would look like without the topper and with a custom white tonneau cover. The tonneau cover is not included and the photo is meant for mock-up purposes.
Speaking of inside, other than the slight, slight seat wear on the driver’s side, the interior could nearly pass as new. It’s ridiculously nice.
Under the hood and underneath, the time-capsule preservation continues. Notice how nice the plating is on the brake booster and power steering hose ends! Underneath, there are factory marks EVERYWHERE and the frame and suspension are smooth, smooth, smooth. Because this truck has been driven regularly over the last 50 years, maintenance items like tune-up pieces, hoses, and belts have been replaced.
I could ramble on, but you are encouraged to watch the videos and look at the photos of this piece of history. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have that I can answer. My name is Jeff and I can be reached at 608-401-1113. This is a high quality, investment-grade ’72 C20 Highlander that will attract tons of attention. I’m excited to meet the new caretaker of this piece of Chevy truck history.
